Kodokan Judo recognizes 67 Nage Waza (throwing techniques) all of which are highly effective on those unfamiliar with Judo techniques. 


On the competitive surface; when faced with a similarly skilled opponent a select 18 techniques have been seen effective at all skill levels and at all competitions. These are not the only techniques that exist in the world of competition Judo but these do show up again and again and have proven successful at the highest levels of competition.
