Traditional method:
All judogi are wash warm with mild detergent and hang dry immediately after practice. Any deviation from this will alter size, longevity or color.
To shrink judogi:
Note: Judogi can usually be returned for a different size provided the Judogi is unused and unwashed.
Note: judogi do not shrink evenly. The arm length will shrink more than the gi length and the gi body width shrinks even less. If you find you need to alter a Judogi you should consult your coach(es) prior to alteration.
Note: once a Gi fits properly you will need to care for it in the traditional method listed above
So you're gonna shrink your gi.
Step one: wash hot. As hot as you can.
Try on to see if it has shrunk to fit.
Step two: dry hot for 10mins
Try on to see if it has shrunk to fit
Step three: Repeat step two until it fits or has completely dried.
Step four: wash hot again.
Step five: dry hot 30 mins
Try on to see if it has shrunk to fit
Repeat step five until it fits or has completely dried
Step six: wash hot
Step seven: dry hot continuously until completely dried (approx 70mins)
Gi has been shrunk to it's max. No shrinking is possible. Any additional size alterations will need to be done via hemming.
